Seed Drive for Feed our Friends
Liam McDonald an 11-year-old from George, Western Cape, did not let the pandemic keep him down. Instead, Liam came up with a brilliant idea, the Seed Drive for Feed our Friends. The initiative is about providing communities with Non-GMO Heirloom seeds, that will enable them to start their own gardens and maintain them. This is a sustainable way to create community food gardens that will provide healthy food for their families. As Liam says “We can grow our own food. We must relearn how to take care of ourselves.”
DataDot technology South Africa has donated seeds to the value of R1 500. The seeds will be donated to the Garden Route Food Pantry who will be going into the communities to distribute the seeds through their living gardens program, to help create sustainable community food gardens.
DataDot SA is ISO14001 accredited, and this plays a huge role in the contribution towards The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) and Global Health. In this instance the Seed Drive for Feed our Friends speaks to; 1) No poverty, 2) Zero Hunger, 3) Good health and well-being, which are three of the seventeen goals of SDG’s.
Representing DataDot Technology SA, Maritza and Wesley did the official handover of the seeds to Carl and Liam on 15 June 2021, the begining of an amazing journey and partnership.
You too can lend a hand towards creating community gardens by donating Non-GMO Heirloom seeds or making a financial contribution towards the purchase of the seeds.
