Your Tiny New Crime Prevention Unit

Almost 90 thousand vehicles are stolen each year. That, together with the associated insurance, justice and policing costs totalling an estimated R4.9-billion annually, has seen vehicle theft become an increasing social and economic problem for our country.

As all serving police officers know, a high proportion of unresolved vehicle theft cases are due to criminals easily being able to change the identity of a vehicle, making it impossible for the police to find the original identity of the vehicle and associated case dockets.

There is, however, a new system of security that even our thieves are finding rather difficult to believe.

After all, seeing is believing - and DataDots are nigh impossible to see.

Tiny particles - each the size of a grain of sand and made of high-tech polyester substrate particles suspended in a clear drying adhesive with a UV trace - these DataDots are all laser etched with the relevant identification number (the VIN or chassis number for new vehicles; predetermined number (PIN) for used vehicles and Household/Business kits).

The 10 000 DataDots all with the vehicle's own individual identifiers are then applied to the vehicle.

These DataDots are overt and covert to maximise deterrence and, due to their sheer numbers, will withstand all but the most determined attempts to find and remove them.

Statistics received from Business Against Crime and the South African Insurance Association show that the Toyota Quantum, since. the introduction of DataDot, has achieved exceptional results with an 81% reduction in theft, when compared to vehicles in the same category.

This has also resulted in a 91% improved recovery rate by the SAPS on these vehicles.

Assisting SAPS

We have implemented an intensive DataDot training initiative for the South African Police Service and have, to date, trained over 5 500 officers to understand and implement DataDot.

We are empowering our police force to protect the public and contributing to the development of a world-class police service,: says Derek Menday of DataDot South Africa.

The bottom line is, says DataDot, that you can assist in decreasing vehicle theft and hijacking by at least 50% by installing DataDot in your vehicle, thereby securing the identity of the vehicle by giving it its own DNA, so to speak.

Certain reputable dealerships, such as Provincial Motors, have also become accredited DataDot fitment centres. For further information, contact Provincial Motors Richards Bay, Empangeni or Mtubatuba, or contact DataDot directly on 0861 DataDot or info@datadot.co.za
